This study was motivated by the low skills of students in writing news texts in Indonesian language subjects and learning activities are still dominantly teacher-centred. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of Discovery Learning model on the skill of writing news text at SMP Negeri 1 Afulu. The research method used was quantitative method with experimental approach. The research design used was Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 2 classes, namely: Class VII-A as the experimental class with 25 students, while Class VII-B as the control class with 22 students. The results of the study: (1) The average score of students on news text writing skills in the Experimental Class was 82.20 with good criteria while in the Control Class it was 68.18 with sufficient criteria. (2) There is an effect of the Discovery Learning learning model on news text writing skills at SMP Negeri 1 Afulu according to the results of hypothesis testing with the tcount value (5.413) ≥ the ttable value (1.680) then the conclusion is accepted Ha and rejected H0.   Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan siswa dalam menulis teks berita pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dan kegiatan pembelajaran masih dominan berpusat kepada guru. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Discovery Learning terhadap keterampilan menulis teks berita di SMP Negeri 1 Afulu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan eksperimen. Desain penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 2 kelas, yaitu: Kelas VII-A sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 25 orang, sedangkan Kelas VII-B sebagai kelas kontrol dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 22 orang. Hasil penelitian: (1) Nilai rata-rata siswa terhadap keterampilan menulis teks berita di Kelas Eksperimen sebesar 82,20 dengan kriteria baik sedangkan di Kelas Kontrol sebesar 68,18 dengan kriteria cukup. (2) Adanya pengaruh model pembelajaran Discovery Learning terhadap keterampilan menulis teks berita di SMP Negeri 1 Afulu sesuai hasil uji hipotesis dengan nilai thitung (5,413) ≥ nilai ttabel (1,680) maka kesimpulannya diterima Ha dan ditolak H0. 

Based on initial observations at the Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli Idanoi, it was found that students' comprehension of fictional works was still low. This study aimed to determine the application of the Close Reading method to improve students' reading comprehension of fictional works in grade VIII of the UPTD of SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli Idanoi in the 2024/2025 academic year. This study used a classroom action research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The researcher's observations showed an increase in reading comprehension of 53.33% in the first meeting and 60% in the second meeting, while in cycle II, the reading comprehension of 80% in the first meeting and 93.33% in the second meeting. The results of the student observation sheets also showed an increase, with reading comprehension of 40.10% in the first meeting and 53.02% in the second meeting, followed by 76.09% in the first meeting and 91.20% in the second meeting. The results of the student learning test in Cycle I showed an average score of 46%, while in Cycle II this increased to an average of 94.73%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Close Reading method is effective in improving students' reading comprehension in fictional works. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers use this method as an alternative in the learning process and as a reference in efforts to improve the quality of learning in schools.   Berdasarkan hasil observasi awal di UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli Idanoi, ditemukan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam memahami suatu bacaan karya fiksi masih rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan metode Close Reading dalam meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan siswa pada materi karya fiksi di kelas VIII UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli Idanoi tahun pembelajaran 2024/2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing melalui tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Hasil observasi peneliti menunjukkan peningkatan pada siklus I pertemuan pertama sebesar 53,33% dan pertemuan kedua 60%, sedangkan pada siklus II pertemuan pertama sebesar 80% dan pertemuan kedua 93,33%. Hasil lembar observasi peserta didik juga menunjukkan peningkatan, yaitu pada siklus I pertemuan pertama sebesar 40,10% dan pertemuan kedua 53,02%, kemudian pada siklus II pertemuan pertama 76,09% dan pertemuan kedua 91,20%. Hasil tes belajar siswa pada siklus I menunjukkan rata-rata nilai sebesar 46% sementara pada siklus II meningkat menjadi rata-rata 94,73%. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Close Reading efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan siswa pada materi karya fiksi, sehingga disarankan agar guru menjadikan metode ini sebagai alternatif dalam proses pembelajaran serta sebagai referensi dalam upaya peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah.
