PEER REVIEWER PROCESS
The Journal of Adaptive Education (JoAEdu) employs a single-blind review system to ensure academic quality. Each submitted manuscript will go through a rigorous review process by reviewers to ensure originality, quality, and relevance to the field of adaptive education. The following are the stages of the peer review process:
Manuscript Submission
Authors submit manuscripts electronically through the Open Journal System (OJS) on the Journal of Adaptive Education (JoAEdu) page.
Initial Assessment by the Editor
Every manuscript submitted to the Journal of Adaptive Education (JoAEdu) undergoes an initial assessment process by the editorial team to ensure compliance with the journal’s standards. The editorial team conducts a thorough evaluation of several critical aspects, including: (1) suitability of the manuscript to JoAEdu’s focus and scope in the field of adaptive education; (2) adherence to writing guidelines covering structure, format, and academic writing standards; and (3) fulfilment of basic academic quality standards, including the absence of significant methodological flaws. Manuscripts that fail to fulfil any of these criteria may be subject to desk rejection or returned to the author for correction before proceeding to the peer review stage.
Evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief conducts an in-depth assessment of manuscripts to ensure three main aspects: originality and innovation in adaptive education, significance of contribution to researchers and practitioners, and compatibility with the vision of JoAEdu. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without undergoing the whole review process to maintain the quality of the publication and the relevance of the journal.
Assignment to Reviewers
The managing editor selects a minimum of two reviewers based on three main criteria: (1) competence in adaptive education or related disciplines, (2) no conflict of interest with the authors, and (3) willingness to complete the review within the deadline. JoAEdu applies a single-blind review system, while the identity of the reviewers is known to the editor.
Review Process by Reviewer
The assigned Reviewer can accept or decline the review assignment, with the option to provide a substitute recommendation if declined. Upon receiving the assignment, they comprehensively evaluate the manuscript based on its originality, methodological robustness, writing quality, and relevance to the scope of JoAEdu. Based on this assessment, the Reviewer provides a recommendation: acceptance, revision, or rejection, along with constructive notes for manuscript improvement.
Editorial Decision and Announcement of Review Results
Based on a comprehensive evaluation of the Reviewer’s input, the Editor-in-Chief and managing editor make the final decision in the form of acceptance of the manuscript, request for revision (major/minor), or rejection. If there are significant differences in the review, the team may invite additional reviewers to provide further input. The decision, along with anonymised reviewer comments, is then communicated to the author, while the Reviewer also receives notification of the outcome of their assessment.
Final Stage of Review Process
Accepted manuscripts will go through an editing stage before being published open-access in PDF format. Manuscripts that require revision require authors to make improvements according to the reviewer’s input and resubmit within the specified time. The editor evaluates minor revisions, while the original reviewer reviews major revisions. Rejected manuscripts are accompanied by constructive feedback for improvement for the next submission.
