Publication Fees and Policies for the Journal of Advances in Physics Education

The Journal of Advances in Physics Education is committed to maintaining an Open Access publishing model, ensuring that all peer-reviewed research articles are freely and permanently accessible to the global academic community. To sustain this mission and cover the operational expenses associated with manuscript processing, editorial management, production, and digital dissemination, the journal applies the following publication fee structure:

1. Manuscript Submission Fee
There is no charge for submitting a manuscript to the journal. The initial submission and editorial screening processes are provided free of charge to all authors.

2. Article Processing Charge (APC)
Following the acceptance of a manuscript for publication, the corresponding author or their sponsoring institution/funding agency will be required to settle an Article Processing Charge (APC). This fee is essential to support the comprehensive services we provide throughout the publication lifecycle.

The APC rates are as follows:

  • Indonesian Authors: IDR 400.000,_

  • International Authors: USD 30,_

This charge directly contributes to the following services:

  1. Assignment and registration of a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for each published article.
  2. Rigorous similarity screening and plagiarism prevention using the Turnitin software.
  3. Professional copyediting, typesetting, layout design, and final production of the article.
  4. Ongoing maintenance of the journal’s online server, long-term digital archiving, and data preservation.

The Journal of Advances in Physics Education is committed to promoting equitable access to publication for all researchers, particularly those facing financial constraints. To support this mission, the journal offers a limited number of partial APC waivers, with a maximum reduction of up to 80% of the total fee, subject to strict merit-based and needs-based evaluation.

Authors may submit a formal request for a partial APC waiver, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, provided the following conditions are fully met:

  1. Manuscript Acceptance: The manuscript must have successfully completed the single-blind peer-review process and received a formal acceptance decision from the Editorial Board, with at least a "minor revisions" recommendation. No waiver request will be processed for manuscripts still under review or rejected.
  2. Official Proof of Financial Hardship: The corresponding author must submit official documentation clearly demonstrating financial insufficiency, whether due to personal economic hardship or lack of adequate institutional or governmental research funding. This documentation must be accompanied by a formal declaration letter, signed by the author’s institutional head or an authorised financial officer, verifying the author’s funding status.
  3. Timely Submission: The waiver request must be submitted either at the time of manuscript submission or, at the very latest, immediately upon notification of formal acceptance. Retroactive requests submitted after the APC invoice has been issued will not be entertained under any circumstances.
  4. Exceptional Scholarly Quality: The manuscript must demonstrate outstanding academic quality, as reflected in at least two independent reviewers’ recommendations that highlight its originality, substantial theoretical contribution, methodological rigour, and significant implications for the advancement of physics education research.
  5. Fair Usage Limit: To ensure equitable access and fairness across the author community, the waiver is granted only once per corresponding author within any rolling two-year period. Previous waiver recipients are not eligible for a new request until this period has elapsed.
  6. Final Authority and Priorities: The final decision to approve or reject any waiver request rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief, and this determination is final and not subject to appeal. In exercising this discretion, the Editor-in-Chief will give priority consideration to early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and authors from developing countries or underfunded institutions, provided that the scholarly merit of the manuscript is deemed exceptionally high.
