Training on Managing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in Primary Schools in Pesawaran Regency

Based on research findings, primary school teachers in Pesawaran Regency have begun designing and implementing learning activities using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. However, the management of PBL in classroom practice has not yet been grounded in appropriate theoretical understanding. Therefore, teachers require training in effectively managing PBL. This community service program aims to address the issue of low professional and pedagogical competence among primary school teachers, particularly in managing learning using the PBL model. The objectives of this training activity are to ensure that primary school teachers: (1) acquire knowledge about managing PBL; (2) develop the skills to implement PBL effectively; and (3) foster a positive attitude toward PBL-based instruction. The specific target of the training is for teachers to master the necessary competencies to manage PBL in the classroom. The method used in this program involved a combination of training techniques, including discussions, Q&A sessions, simulations, group assignments, and individual tasks. The target participants were primary school teachers in Pesawaran Regency. The training was conducted in three cycles: The first cycle took place in the first week of the first month and included a pre-test to assess teachers’ prior knowledge and skills in managing PBL, followed by delivery of training materials. The second cycle, conducted in the first week of the second month, focused on collecting assignments and group presentations of the completed tasks. The third cycle, held in the first week of the third month, included content enrichment, final presentations, and a post-test. The pre-test and post-test consisted of five open-ended questions assessing knowledge and a performance-based assessment for PBL teaching skills. The results showed a significant improvement in teachers’ knowledge, from 19.23% in the pre-test to 80.77% in the post-test, indicating a 61.54% increase, categorized as very good. Similarly, teachers’ skills improved from 16% to 84%, showing a 68% increase, also categorized as very good.

Building Bonds: Stoytelling by Parents Shapes Literacy for Preschool Students

Abstract Recognizing the foundational impact of early literacy, this study investigates the impact of parental engagement in early literacy through storytelling, emphasizing how structured socialization sessions can enhance parents’ awareness, skills, and practices. The research was conducted during May 2025 at TK Islam Al-Furqan, Minasa Upa, Makassar, South Sulawesi, and involved 15 parents of preschool students, with an average of 12–14 attending each session. Over four consecutive Saturdays, parents participated in 90-minute sessions that introduced the importance of storytelling, demonstrated effective storytelling techniques, explored vocabulary and comprehension strategies, and encouraged collaboration between parents and teachers. Data were collected using FGDs and survey. Attendance data indicated consistently high participation, with an average rate of 83%. Survey results showed that 82% of parents strongly agreed that their understanding of storytelling’s role in literacy improved, 73% felt more confident in storytelling, and 64% had begun applying storytelling practices at home. Thematic analysis of FGD transcripts revealed that parents no longer viewed storytelling as merely entertainment but as an educational tool that enriched children’s vocabulary and comprehension, fostered emotional connection, and cultivated a love for reading. Parents also highlighted the value of consistent storytelling practices across home and school. The findings suggest that parental storytelling is a powerful strategy for fostering children’s literacy development and that structured socialization can empower parents to implement it effectively. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for collaboration between educators and parents in developing storytelling-based programs that provide sustainable benefits for preschool children’s literacy growth.

Pelatihan Implementasi Strategi Reward and Punishment untuk Meningkatkan Motivasi Belajar Siswa di Lingkungan Sekolah

This community service activity aimed to train teachers in implementing the reward and punishment strategy to enhance student learning motivation in a school environment. The strategy is rooted in behaviorist theory, which asserts that positive reinforcement (reward) and corrective measures (punishment) can effectively shape student behavior. A qualitative participatory approach was used, involving stakeholders actively in planning, execution, and evaluation. The training was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung, targeting 57 teachers with diverse subject backgrounds. The program focused on both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of reward and punishment in classrooms, emphasizing positive and non-violent disciplinary methods. Evaluation through pre- and post-training questionnaires showed a 14% increase in teachers’ understanding of the strategy, accompanied by more positive attitudes toward its classroom use. The results indicate that training enhanced teachers’ competencies in motivational classroom management, which could contribute to improving the quality of learning. This service underscores the importance of ongoing teacher development for fostering effective learning environments.

Enhancing Teacher and Student Competence Through CAD-Based Digital Pattern Making Training to Support Fashion Industry 4.0

The rapid development of Fashion Industry 4.0 requires a digitally skilled workforce, particularly in fashion pattern making using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. Nevertheless, initial observations at SMK Negeri 8 Medan indicated that teachers and students are still limited to manual pattern-making practices, which are less relevant to the needs of business and industry. This study aimed to strengthen teacher and student competence through structured CAD-based digital pattern-making training. The training included the introduction of basic CAD tools, practical exercises in digital pattern construction, and pattern printing using a simple plotter. Twenty participants, consisting of teachers and students, were evaluated using pretests and posttests. The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in competence, with the average score increasing from 64.4 (pretest) to 81.1 (posttest). The average N-Gain score was 0.47, categorized as medium, reflecting the effectiveness of the training in enhancing digital skills. The highest improvement was achieved in the accuracy of constructing underarm and side-body lines, while modifications of home-wear patterns showed relatively lower progress. Overall, the program successfully improved the competence of both teachers and students, better preparing them to meet the demands of Fashion Industry 4.0, while also offering a replicable training model for other vocational schools.
